Some Things You Might Not Know About Me

Actually, the complete lack of anything spicy in my early life made me an avid student of

the sensual. That and listening to dad’s sermons, with titles like “Where Shall I Look?,” turned me into a seeker--always looking for the connection between the sacred, the sassy, and the sensual.  Now I write about it in the rugged, lofty, voluptuous mountains.

I’m married to the love of my life.

My mom taught me to play piano when I was five, and I’ve been plunking and warbling ever since.  I’ve sung in Carnegie Hall with Peter, Paul, and Mary; Aaron Copeland; and Leonard Bernstein.  I’ve performed in the ancient amphitheaters of Greece.  All of which was inspiring and electric.  Now, my great joy is singing with an a cappella octet called Dolce Voce (“sweet voice” in Italian), here in my hometown.  We’re small, but we’re passionate.

I sing.

I fly fish.

I’m a city girl who had never seen a live trout, let alone grabbed hold of its rainbow-colored, slimy body.  But my husband is a former fly fishing guide, and right after we met, he taught me how to throw a really tight loop.  Then he bet me a night of love slavery that I’d catch twelve fish the first day.  Novice that I was, I bet I’d bag only three.  I caught thirteen.  So technically, I lost--but that long, slavish night was pretty darn fun.

I’m inspired by women.

Women are capable of amazing feats--giving birth, running companies and marathons, having unlimited orgasms. We radiate. We inspire. We dazzle. It’s my women friends who show me how to be compassionate, fierce, and sexy all at the same time. It’s my women friends who double-tested the Tin Foil Hum Job and the juices-behind-the-ear trick and suggested I write these things down--thus giving birth to 203 Ways to Drive a Man Wild in Bed. And it’s my women readers who, by sharing their canny points of view, motivate me to delve even deeper into the essence of sexuality and passion. You guys--us guys--are fabulous.

the wild beauty of zebras, sandhill cranes, and lions; the scent of tuberose; Italian lemon cake; nibbles on my shoulder; Beethoven’s Ninth;  hot brownies with ice cream; men’s forearms; velvety Hawaiian air; the smell of my husband’s neck; ocean waves at night; a lone guitarist singing Bese Me Mucho; hot jazz; sensual novels like Anita Diamant’s The Red Tent or Isabel Allende’s House of the Spirits; ancient Egyptian temples; deep conversation over margaritas with wise, wild girlfriends; and crazy, can’t-remember-your-name love.

I’m swept away by:

I kissed a lot of frogs, sexy Bad boys, and good-on-paper princes before I finally found The One.  It happened unexpectedly, ten years ago, when I changed my plans to follow a wild hair and an old friend to a funky San Francisco blues bar.  He’s romantic, manly without being macho, smart, funny, and deeply loving.  And yes, hot, too.
